Workshops
Workshops comprises three main components: the wood-working shop, metal shop, and the precision-equipment facility. In addition, the unit possesses a paint-room, plastics assembly room, a welding area, and refrigeration repair.
The shops is staffed by two highly skilled technicians who are able to work with a wide variety of materials - wood, plastic, steel, brass, aluminium, etc. The unit holds a large inventory of materials in order to avoid start-up delays. Over the years workshop personnel have been called upon to construct an extensive range of research equipment - often requiring a very high level of accuracy in workmanship. They have manufactured highly intricate miniature apparatus for physiological investigation and, at the other end of the scale, large and complex experimental arenas for behavioural research. The fine craftsmanship and service available from the CSB Shops has been invaluable in helping to make possible a large part of our research output.
